Chuck grew up in Long Beach, California and attended theUniversity of Redlands in California. His church growth was at California Heights United Methodist Church. He was an MYF leader and attended many of the youth camps around Southern California. Chuck joined the Peace Corps and taught English as a Second Language in the Philippines. He then took a staff position with the Peace Corps that took him to the central Philippines, Washington, D.C. and Seoul, Korea.

Chuck met his wife, Mei Ling, in the Philippines. Their son Don was born in Korea and their twin daughters, Aimee and Emily, were born in Long Beach. Chuck's background is in Human Resources Management and he recently retired from The Coca-Cola Company. Chuck and his family lived in Hong Kong for two years and Mexico City for two and a half years while working for Coca-Cola.

The Shackelton's joined Mt. Bethel in 1988 when they first moved to Marietta. They have been active members and Chuck has served on the Administrative Council, the Finance Committee, and most recently as Chair of the Missions Committee. Chuck's Great Grandfather was a Methodist Minister inCalifornia. He enjoys international travel, tennis and swimming. He also holds a part-time position at Ministries United for Service and Training (MUST).
