International Mondays kicks off Oct. 9 with Peace Corps Coordinator

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The International Mondays lecture series kicks off the fall semester with Shelby Contreras speaking on "The Peace Corps Experience" Monday, Oct. 9 from noon to 1 p.m. in Room S401 of the John Pappajohn Business Administration Building on the UI campus. The series is free and open to the public and includes a free lunch.

Contreras is a returned Peace Corps volunteer who served as an English teacher in Botswana, Southern Africa from 1995-1997. She is currently the Peace Corps Campus Coordinator at the University of Iowa. Using slides of her experience as a volunteer in Botswana, she will speak about the challenges of working in Africa and the benefits of travel, community service and living abroad. She will also present general information about the Peace Corps and its programs.

The International Mondays seminar series is sponsored by University of Iowa International Programs and presents discussions with individuals who have had international experiences. The series is expanding to different locations across campus in an effort to appeal to an even broader audience, although some of the events will still be held in the International Center, Room 230.
