Peace Corps in Cameroon
The Three Goals of Peace Corps in Cameroon
Help the people of Cameroon meet their need for trained manpower
Promote a better understanding of the American people on the part of the Cameroonian people
Promote a better understanding of the Cameroonian people on the part of the American people.
Peace Corps Volunteers in Cameroon are serving in rural areas in all ten provinces. They each make a commitment to live and work for two years within the schools and communities in which they are placed. Through the Peace Corpsí Teachers' Skills Upgrading/Training Project, Peace Corps Volunteers collaborate with Cameroonian educators to empower primary and secondary school teachers by strengthening their teaching and classroom management skills. Current educational emphasis is placed on improving the teaching of English, math and science. The Volunteers also act as facilitators, assisting in strengthening links between schools and their communities. Examples include the establishment of school and community libraries, HIV/AIDS awareness, sex education and life skills, environmental education, computer literacy development, income generating projects for women, and community gardens.
