Margie's Adventures in Peace Corps Cameroon

Margie's Adventures in Peace Corps Cameroon

On June 4, 2001 I am leaving my home of 22 years to join the Peace Corps in Cameroon. While experiencing the rollercoaster of emotions that I am sure accompanies every Peace Corps Trainees last weeks, I am setting up this site to help me keep in touch with everyone back home. Since I have successfully coerced my sister and brother-in-law into maintaining this site while I am gone, it should soon feature letters and pictures from my adventures and experiences as an English teacher in Cameroon. Meanwhile, here is a bit of information on Peace Corps itself, my own application experience, packing, waiting, and other fun stuff. So, enjoy, and please keep in touch!!!

Margie

June 4, 2001:

As, I'm sure most of you know, Margie as left to go to Cameroon today. It was a rough day for all of us involved. Saying goodbye for 2 years, is not easy, especially for Margie. Communication with Margie will be limited while she is gone. I will try to post information as I receive it from her. I strongly urge you to write Margie, through snail mail, every so often. Her address until September, 2001, will be:

Margie Swink

Peace Corps Volunteer

Corps de la Paix

B.P. 817

Yaoundé, Cameroon

As I receive her new address, I'll be sure to post here. I have also set up an email address for Margie while she is in the Peace Corps. Anything sent to this address, I will occassionally print off and send to her so she can read it. If you want to be notified when a new letter gets posted here, please send an email to this address with NOTIFY ME in the subject line. Must be in caps, whatever else you type in the message will NOT be sent to Margie. The address is: Margiekins@earthlink.net

November 5, 2001:

It has been quite a while since I last updated. I've been a bit lazy, so please forgive me. In any case, two new letters have been posted. Letter10 was a letter that Margie wrote to Betsy and I and asked that we edit out the personal content. So if it sounds a little jumpy, you can blame us, not Margie. Also, we have posted new pictures for you to browse through.

In the near future I plan on putting up all the pictures we have posted so far in a Thumbnail gallery for you so the page loads faster. I won't be able to keep a huge amount of the pictures though, due to space limitations, but I will keep as much as I can for you. Of course, there is no time limit for this, but I hope to have it done this month, time permitting.

December 1, 2001:

A new letter has been posted as well as a drawing of what Margie's apartment there looks like. The drawing was made much neater by Betsy in CAD.

I still haven't had time to do the picture thumbnails, but, I promise it will get done sometime. ;)

May 22, 2002:

Ok, it's been a long time since things have been updated. I apologize. In any case, there are 4 new letters for you to read as well as new for you to look at.

As for the picture thumbnails, I don't think it's going to be possible since there isn't enough space on the web site to hold all the pictures. I may yet do it later on, but right now I don't have the time to do it. Enjoy. ;)

December 18, 2002:

Ok, it's been a long time since things have been updated. I apologize. A couple things have changed. Unfortunately, no new letters from Margie have arrived. This past summer, Betsy and her Mom went to visit Margie in Cameroon and brought back a bunch of pictures. There's quite a few pictures so I'm only posting half now and I'll post the other half next month some time. Here's everything that has changed: What I Will Miss, Cameroon, and of course pictures. I hope you enjoy it.
