Lloyd Williams was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic from 1997 to 1999.

I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic from 1997 to 1999. It was the most rewarding thing I've ever done. It was also the most challenging. Here are some pictures of the experience. UPDATE I just went back to the Dominican Republic from Febuary 1 - 9. I visited people in my village and attended the Friends of the Dominican Republic board meeting. I'll try to get some pictures of the visit posted soon. Photographs of my experience

Introduction This is a brief intro to La Siembra, the town where I lived. Farm Check here to see pictures of my demonstration farm. In the future I plan to add a page on Dominican farms, a page on work I did with Medical Clinics., a page on Dominican friends, and many more.! Links

Peace Corps

INTRODUCTION

This is the story of my experiences as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic.

So I, and the fifty people in this photo started on the journey that is the peace corps

First we had three months of training in the Capitol of the DR, Santo Domingo. We learned Spanish and the basics of Dominican agriculture. Here I am learning the finer points of driving a "Dominican Tractor."

After Training we were sent out into the country. I was sent to the remote mountain village of La Siembra, marked with an X.

This was the view From the front porch of the little house I got. The mountains where I lived were incredibly beautiful.

There was no electricity in La Siembra. Here a Tonya studies using a kerosene lamp.

As soon as I got to La Siembra there were people to welcome me. They were very interested in what I was doing and it seemed I always had a group of people watching what I was doing.

There wasn't any running water either. Here I am getting water from the spring

So now you know where La Siembra is, and a little about it. I plan to add more pages soon that will go more into depth about what I did as a Volunteer.
