Old Iya This old woman, Iya, was a close friend to me while I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Chad, Central Africa. She came to my house nearly every day so that I could put medicine in her eye. I went to her house with her one day and was astonished to see that her home, made of layer upon layer of sun-dried mud, was nearly impossible for me to enter. One had to climb up a nearly vertical slant to go inside, and once there, the lack of windows and the thick mud roof made it nearly impossible to see anything. Iya never allowed me to photograph her house, but let me take this picture of her, near the holiday of Ramaddan. Photo Gallery
