Mr Sarfo Peprah, Human Resource and Corporate Affairs Manager of the Nestle Ghana Limited, has commended the US Peace Corps for their immense contributions towards the development of the country.
He said officials of the Peace Corps in the area of education and health deserved commendation because some of them are working in remotest and deprived parts of Ghana execution community development projects.
Mr Peprah was addressing the closing session of a week-long conference on the theme: “Peace Corps stars Conference” organized by the American Peace Corps for 60 brilliant but needy students from deprived schools in Kumasi at the weekend.
The conference also brought together students from 26 Junior and Senior High Schools, technical and vocational institutions where the Peace Corps were currently working.
Nestle Ghana Limited, Kasapa Company, Coca Cola, Barclays Bank Limited among other companies sponsored the conference.
Mr Peprah praised Nestle Ghana Limited for supporting the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) towards the achievement of the Universal education and hoped that it would continue to support the developmental efforts of the country.
Mr Peprah reminded the students that since success could not be achieved on a silver platter there was the need for them to combine values, principles, best information as well as best effort before achieving their dreams in life.
The Provost of the College of Agriculture at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science Technology (KNUST), Professor Stephen A. Osei cautioned the students to use their time judiciously to acquire knowledge, which would help them grow to become useful citizens for the nation.
He stated that although getting money was good, acquiring knowledge could also help one to plan and make efficient use of resources available to him at any point in time.
Ms. Melinda Palma, Leader and Coordinator of the Programme, said the conference aimed at equipping the participants with leadership skills to make an impact on the lives and others in the various communities where they work.
Master Isaac Frimpong, one of the participants, appealed to the Peace Corps and the organizers of the Programme to help increase the number of participants to enable more students to experience the rich knowledge they acquired during the conference period.
