Julian Katchinoff and his wife, Martha Wawro, were undergraduate students in CU's geography and international affairs program. They wanted to get some experience before returning to graduate school, so they signed up for the Peace Corps, said Elizabeth Dunn, associate professor of geography and international affairs. Two University of Colorado alumni in Georgia as Peace Corps volunteers have been evacuated from the village they were working in as Russians bombed the area.
The U.S. State Department said all Peace Corps volunteers have been accounted for.
Julian Katchinoff and his wife, Martha Wawro, were undergraduate students in CU's geography and international affairs program. They wanted to get some experience before returning to graduate school, so they signed up for the Peace Corps, said Elizabeth Dunn, associate professor of geography and international affairs.
Dunn had planned to leave this week for a year in Georgia on a Fulbright Scholarship but has canceled the trip. She had planned to study how international trade regulations are affecting Georgia's effort to expert agricultural products to Western Europe and the United States.
"This is pure unadulterated aggression on the part of Russia," Dunn said. "This is the most significant act of aggression on the part of Russia since the invasion of Afghanistan in 1979."

| Dodd vows to filibuster Surveillance Act Senator Chris Dodd vowed to filibuster the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that would grant retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies that helped this administration violate the civil liberties of Americans. "It is time to say: No more. No more trampling on our Constitution. No more excusing those who violate the rule of law. These are fundamental, basic, eternal principles. They have been around, some of them, for as long as the Magna Carta. They are enduring. What they are not is temporary. And what we do not do in a time where our country is at risk is abandon them." |
