Hi,

I was just surfing the net and was hoping to contact my former high school English teacher Ms. Hobson to let her know that I had finished my Ph.D. at UCLA, won a postdoctoral fellowship at Cornell University, and am now a tenure-track professor at UC Santa Cruz. I wanted her to know how much I appreciated the challenges she offered to me as a high school student, and that without that writing and literary criticism background (oh yes, she gave us lit-crit!), I know I would not have gone as far as I have in my own education, or have been as confident a student in my first years as an undergrad. And I am also proud to have never gotten a "this smells of the midnight oil" comment on any of my essays I turned in for Ms. Hobson!
