U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Kathleen Stephens says she hopes key issues surrounding the Korean Peninsula can be resolved through dialogue.
Stephens made the statement during a meeting with ruling Grand National Party (GNP) Chairman Park Hee-tae on Monday.
She expressed hope that all contentious issues in the region, and in the international community, will be resolved through reconciliation and cooperation based on the six-way nuclear talks and dialogue between the U.S. and the two Koreas.
Stephens added that it was a great honor and privilege to be serving as the new U.S. ambassador to Seoul.
The GNP leader said South Korea and the U.S. should strengthen their partnership ― an alliance that has lasted some 60 years. He urged the U.S. to play an active role in opening up and reforming North Korea.

Peace Corps has withdrawn all volunteers from the country because of "growing instability." Morales has thrown out US Ambassador Philip Goldberg accusing the American government of inciting the violence. This is not the first controversy surrounding Goldberg's tenure as US ambassador to Bolivia. |
