[Episcopal News Service] Elizabeth Beach-Hacking has been appointed the Episcopal Church's United Thank Offering (UTO) Coordinator.
Beach-Hacking succeeds JoAnne Chapman, who resigned last month after six years in the position to relocate to Kansas to be closer to family members.
Prior to joining UTO, Beach-Hacking completed S.T.M. and M.Div. degrees at General Theological Seminary in New York City. She began her studies at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but when her husband's job required a move to Chicago, Illinois she studied for a year at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary. Beach-Hacking has also served as a congregational consultant in the Diocese of Pennsylvania working with numerous congregations on strategic planning, mutual ministry review, conflict management, retreats, and discernment for calls of rectors. She holds a B.S. in Finance and Marketing and an M.S. in International Education and Development Management.
"The whole idea of people in the United States giving from the sheer gratitude of the bountifulness of their life here [and] knowing profoundly what it can do in a village in Africa, just captured me and pulled my two passions together -- the church and the poorest of the poor among us," she said.
Beach-Hacking has worked in the international development world and has lived and worked in seven different countries around the world. She volunteered in the Philippines with the United States Peace Corps for more than two years and served in Washington, D.C., and Kenya.
"What I'd really like to do [as coordinator] is bring UTO and all its gifts to the glory of the 21st century and really embrace technology and resources and skills that are extensively available in the Episcopal Church," she said.
UTO is a spiritual and financial partner in the mission work of the Episcopal Church which focuses on addressing compelling human needs and expanding mission and ministry.
