Teacher of English as a Foreign Language

Bring us up to date on your life after the peace corps:

I returned in 1980 to begin a life here. My husband and I departed, never to see each other again. He asked me to marry him six months later and I accepted. We got married in 1981 in a small ceremony in Lake Tahoe. I was a 7-8th grade Language Arts Teacher. In 1983, our first son, Yousef, was born. In 1988, our second son, Rachid, was born. In 1999, I moved schools where I taught French then Spanish. In 2008, my career changed again. I now teach k/1 grade. I have three teaching credentials: English, Spanish, and a Multiple-subject. I have all the bases covered. After struggling to find a career here, my husband, who had been a History-Geography teacher in Fes, and highly respected, I might add, finally opened an Italian reastaurant that was highly successful until he sold it two years ago. He and I are now waiting my retirement when we will return to Morocco after 30 years in this country. We have bought a house on the Med coast, near Tetouan. Our sons are both in college and will receive their degrees soon. I am happy doing what I do and hope to retire soon to Morocco where a new chapter in our lives will begin.

Any thoughts you have now looking back on peace corps days?:

I feel that my experiences were life changing for me. I benefitted greatly from those two years. I have been back many times and have family and friends I adore.

Anyone you are looking for or would like to hear from?:

No.

Any message for returned volunteers?:

No.
