US Peace Corps Volunteers work for DSWD facilities in WV
ILOILO CITY, Jan. 5 (PNA) – Three Peace Corps Volunteer from the United States of America are now working for the facilities of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) here that cater to abused women and girl children and children in conflict with the law (CICL).
Thomas Sanchock Jr., Maureen Tami and Sarah Nord are among the 65 US Peace Corps Volunteers who were sent to the Philippines by the United States Government in August to work in the sector of education, child youth and family services and coastal resources management.
Sanchock said they underwent training in Bacolod City prior their deployment to their respective assignments in December.
He was assigned at the Regional Rehabilitation Center for the Youth (RRCY) in Guimaras; Nord at the Haven for Women in New Lucena town and Tami at the Cabatuan Home for Girls in Cabatuan, Iloilo.
They are expected to stay for about two years before they will be recalled or transferred to other assignments.
“We look forward to working jointly with other sectors here,” he said. “Philippines is special because it is the second country to accept volunteers.”
Sanchock said more than 8,000 US Peace Corps Volunteers are working in various countries worldwide since it started in 1962. (PNA)
