[Episcopal News Service] Elizabeth Beach Hacking, United Thank Offering coordinator for The Episcopal Church, has been appointed as program officer for global mission, focusing on ecumenical and interreligous relations, effective April 15, according to an announcement by Antoinette Daniels, director of TEC's Center for Partnership.
Beach Hacking will "facilitate coordination of issues and programs relating to the global mission of the Episcopal Church across the Mission Centers, and will collaborate with Bishop Epting and Tom Ferguson in ecumenical and interreligious relations," Daniels said in announcing the appointment on February 11.
Prior to joining UTO in 2007, Beach Hacking completed S.T.M. and M.Div. degrees at General Theological Seminary in New York City. She began her studies at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but when her husband's job required a move to Chicago, Illinois she studied for a year at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary. Beach Hacking has also served as a congregational consultant in the Diocese of Pennsylvania, working with numerous congregations on strategic planning, mutual ministry review, conflict management, retreats, and discernment for calls of rectors. She holds a B.S. in finance and marketing and an M.S. in international education and development management.
Beach Hacking has worked in the international development world and has lived and worked in seven different countries around the world. She volunteered in the Philippines with the United States Peace Corps for more than two years and served in Washington, D.C., and Kenya.
She will continue to work with UTO, which provides grants to ministries that address human needs, during the transition to an interim director, said Daniels.
A 10-member task force http://www.episcopalchurch.org/79901_104186_ENG_HT M.htm is in the process of a three-year study of UTO in response to a resolution passed by TEC's Executive Council during its October 2008 meeting in Helena, Montana. The resolution (INC055) centered on the need to clarify the legal relationship between UTO and the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society. (The DFMS is the corporate legal entity of The Episcopal Church.)
"I am collaborating with the UTO committee in designing the new position," said Daniels, "but want to ensure that we are acting in sync with Executive Council, so we will collectively give it a great deal of thought."
