Obituary for Saint Vincent RPCV Bridget’ (Bríjida Francisca Mestas) Olguín
She graduated from Mt. St. Scholastic High School in Cañon City and received her bachelors of science and masters of science degrees in Education at Adams State College in Alamosa. She taught at the Adams State Institute in San Luis while also coaching basketball and volleyball. She taught business and Spanish in Pojoaque, N.M. and later in Sanford. In 1962 she moved to Boulder with her family where she taught Spanish until retiring from BVSD in 1981. In 1982 she began volunteer service in the Peace Corps in St.Vincent and the Grenadines and later she began mission work with the Denver Archdiocese in Montería, Colombia.

BOULDER—Bridget’ (Bríjida Francisca Mestas) Olguín passed away at her daughter’s home in Boulder, Colo. surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Originally from Manassa, she attended many schools in Colorado and New Mexico.
She graduated from Mt. St. Scholastic High School in Cañon City and received her bachelors of science and masters of science degrees in Education at Adams State College in Alamosa. She taught at the Adams State Institute in San Luis while also coaching basketball and volleyball. She taught business and Spanish in Pojoaque, N.M. and later in Sanford. In 1962 she moved to Boulder with her family where she taught Spanish until retiring from BVSD in 1981. In 1982 she began volunteer service in the Peace Corps in St.Vincent and the Grenadines and later she began mission work with the Denver Archdiocese in Montería, Colombia.
Bridget was preceded in death by her husband James M. Olguín; her parents Salomón A. Mestas and Rebeca Gallegos; and her brothers and sisters Salomón Mestas, Frank Mestas, Josephine Espinosa, Leandro Mestas, Rose Gallegos, Juan Mestas, José Ramón Mestas, and Carmelita Domínguez.
She is survived by her five children: Carla Olguín Raines, James M Olguín, Mónica Olguín, Carmen Olguín-Tayler, and Loretta Olguín Torgerson; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Recitation of the Rosary was Jan. 29, at St. Thomas Aquinas University Parish, 904 14th St. Boulder. Funeral Mass was held Jan. 30 at St. Thomas Aquinas University Parish. Internment followed at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
