Lesotho RPCV Dr. John O’Keefe, coordinator of the Fisher Museum at Harvard Forest, will present “New England Forests in a Changing World,” an illustrated lecture at Concord Carlisle High School
O’Keefe served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho and as a pilot with the Massachusetts Air National Guard. He then returned to school and received master’s and doctor degrees in forest ecology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Since 1988 he has been coordinator of the Fisher Museum at Harvard Forest in Petersham, where he interprets forest history and current research to the facility’s many visitors. He is also co-author with Forest Director David Foster of “New England Forests Through Time: Insights from the Harvard Forest Dioramas.” He, his wife and two small daughters live in North Orange, in a 200 year-old home built by the first sawmill owner in the area.

On Tuesday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m., Dr. John O’Keefe, coordinator of the Fisher Museum at Harvard Forest, will present “New England Forests in a Changing World,” an illustrated lecture at Concord Carlisle High School.
O’Keefe will discuss changes that have taken place in New England’s woodlands over the centuries as a preview to what may be expected as the progression continues and in light of adjustments anticipated in relation to predicted changes in climate conditions.
O’Keefe served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho and as a pilot with the Massachusetts Air National Guard. He then returned to school and received master’s and doctor degrees in forest ecology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. This program is part two of the Richard Taylor Lecture Series, a series jointly sponsored by the Concord Land Conservation Trust and Harvard University’s Department of O & E Biology. All programs are open to the public and admission is free.
