Philippines RPCV Ruth Fitzgerald honored for her years of crocheting lap robes for the veterans at McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond
Fitzgerald has been very active in the Fredericksburg area for many years. She spent nearly a decade working to get a memorial plaque dedicated to Vietnam veterans on Veterans Day 2004. The plaque honors the men and women who served in the Vietnam War and later died from causes linked to their service. Fitzgerald's book, "A Different Story: A Black History of Fredericksburg, Stafford and Spotsylvania, Virginia," is a comprehensive look at African-American history in the region. Fitzgerald served with her husband, Barry, as a Peace Corps teacher in the Philippines.

Local DAR honors Ruth Fitzgerald
The Washington-Lewis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution honored Ruth Coder Fitzgerald for her years of crocheting lap robes for the veterans at McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond.
In the past year alone, Fitzgerald has made more than 100 lap robes, as well as caps and scarves, for the men and women at McGuire Hospital. She recently had a friend creating afghans for the veterans, as well.
Fitzgerald has been very active in the Fredericksburg area for many years. She spent nearly a decade working to get a memorial plaque dedicated to Vietnam veterans on Veterans Day 2004.
