Two names raised for Dodd seat
CNBC talk show host and supplyside economist Larry Kudlow may challenge Sen. Chris Dodd in 2010. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said Wednesday that he has met with both Kudlow and former Rep. Rob Simmons to discuss a possible challenge. As head of the NRSC, Cornyn is looking to recruit Republicans for Senate in 2010. For now, he isn't taking sides in which Republican should be tapped to take on Dodd. Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic in the 1960's.

WASHINGTON -- CNBC talk show host and supplyside economist Larry Kudlow may challenge Sen.
"I don't really see it as my role to try to pick candidates, but Mr. Kudlow had expressed some interest to me, and so I was in New York and met with him over dinner. I think he's thinking about it, but beyond that there really hasn't been any news or developments," Cornyn said. As for Simmons, Cornyn said he has met with him as well.
"My position is I'm happy to talk to anyone who is interested in running for the Senate particularly in blue states," he said.
Kudlow confirmed his interest in an interview this week with the D.C.-based newspaper POLITICO and said he was talking to strategists to assess the feasibility of a statewide run. Kudlow said he was encouraged by Cornyn.
"He came up to me, and put it right on the table. He seems to think it would be a good race, and a national race," Kudlow told POLITICO.
