I just heard the very sad news that Diego passed away recently. I don't know any more details than that. If someone does, could you share them please?

Diego succumbed to cancer the evening of April 3. His sister said that he was not conscious at the time of his passing. He was not in pain.

He is survived by his sister, Karen, and his father. His family is grateful for the letters and phone calls from Diego's friends around the world. The support has helped her and her father get through this tough time.

Diego was a beautiful spirit who made the world a better place. We will miss him dearly.

For some reason, I thought of Diego upon awakening. It has been almost 35 years since I last saw him, as I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay. Not knowing Diego had passed, I wrote him an email telling him:

Mbaé'chepa Diego,

I hope this email reaches you. And I hope all is well with you. You were the training director in Areguá when I was a volunteer in Paraguay in 1980. Can't believe it's approaching 35 years.

For some reason, your name popped into my head this morning. So I decided to try my luck and reach out to you.

You may remember a couple of names from my group: Eduardo Zappi, Scott Frame, Judy?

It was such a great experience. I'd love to recapture some like that again. It would be great to hear from you.
