Tunisia RPCV Steve Spenler has received the Johnson County Mutual Aid Association Member of the Year Award
Spenler graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1985. He was a Peace Corps volunteer and was stationed in the small African country of Tunisia. In 1987, Spenler returned to Iowa City and attended Paramedic School at the University of Iowa Emergency Medical Services Learning Resource Center. After completing his training, he was hired by Davenport Medic and worked as a paramedic in the Quad Cites until returning to Iowa City in 1993. He was hired as a field supervisor for the JCAS. He was promoted to assistant director in 1997 and became the director in 2001.

Johnson County Ambulance Service Director Steve Spenler has received the Johnson County Mutual Aid Association Member of the Year Award.

The award was presented by Lone Tree Fire Chief Steve Flake at the association's regular meeting April 21 at the Kalona fire station.
Spenler was born and raised in Iowa City and graduated from West High in 1974. His first job was working in his father's tire shop, Spenler Tire Service. Later, he moved west and worked at Yellowstone National Park and attended the University of Montana. Spenler graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1985. He was a Peace Corps volunteer and was stationed in the small African country of Tunisia.

The annual award is presented to a member that has made significant contributions toward the improvement of the Johnson County Mutual Aid Association.
