Bangladesh RPCV Cyndy Tice retires as instructor at the Northern Marianas College’s Nursing Department



Following graduation, Tice worked first as a floor nurse in San Francisco and then as a Peace Corps volunteer in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This was followed by an appointment to assistant professor of Nursing at Arizona State University. For many years Tice worked with CARE in Afghanistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sudan, Uganda, and Pakistan. Later assignments with International Medical Corps found her again in Sudan.

Cyndy Tice, an instructor at the Northern Marianas College's Nursing Department, is retiring at the end of the academic term. (Contributed Photo) Cyndy Tice, an instructor at the Northern Marianas College’s Nursing Department, is retiring at the end of the academic term. During her nearly 12 years at NMC, Tice taught a wide range of subjects in nursing and served in various administrative positions.

She received several teaching awards during her time at NMC, and earlier this year was awarded the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award by the College of Wooster.

Tice has also contributed to the community of Saipan. Many residents will remember her contributions to PAWS, the CNMI Over the Reef Yacht Club, Girl Scouts, and the Immanuel United Methodist Church.

Born in Los Angeles, CA, Tice grew up in suburban Chicago. From her early childhood, she knew she wanted to be a nurse. Following graduation from the College of Wooster in Ohio, Tice completed her nursing training at Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and received an MSN from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

Tice will be moving to Las Cruces, New Mexico to live with her sister and brother-in-law.

On Sunday June 14, IUMC Pastor JJ Matsumoto and church members will be honoring Tice in their regular worship service, followed by a brunch at the church. Friends, students and colleagues who have known and worked with Tice during her years on Saipan are invited to attend both the 9:30am worship service and remain for brunch. PCOL's Candidate for Peace Corps Director Honduras RPCV Jon Carson, 33, presided over thousands of workers as national field director for the Obama campaign and said the biggest challenge -- and surprise -- was the volume of volunteer help, including more than 15,000 "super volunteers," who were a big part of what made Obama's campaign so successful.
