Dan Lavin served in Sierra Leone from 1988 - 1990, specializing in inland fisheries. He continues his work in Sierra Leone, joining the Community Initiative Program (CIP) in 2000 and traveling to Sierra Leone twice each year. CIP helps to develop healthcare, education and sports in rural villages, and makes micro loans to farmers. CIP is unique because team members get paid on success (when a loan is paid with interest), encouraging extension workers to stay with investments and to see them through.
