David Campbell prepares for mid-life switch to Foreign Service career path
New Mexico Business Weekly - by Megan Kamerick NMBW Staff
David Campbell is always busy. But rather than drafting legal briefs, he's now closing down his law practice and studying his new world map.
That's because Campbell, 55, is following a lifelong dream of joining the Foreign Service.
Campbell has been a prominent attorney in central New Mexico for decades. A former Albuquerque city attorney, he has since represented numerous companies and developers. He worked on the city/county unification project, which was ultimately shot down by voters in 2003, and on the commission to amend the city charter.
But the Foreign Service, part of the U.S. State Department, has been in the back of his mind for years. After graduating from Highland High School, he went to the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He served in the Peace Corps in Cameroon and worked for three years after that in Morocco and Tonga. Now that his two children are in college, he and his wife can jump into a new adventure, he said.
