Banjul - The criminal trial involving the state and one Sara Camara, who is accused of robbing and raping an American Peace Corp volunteer resumed on Monday November 16, 2009 before Justice Moses Richards of the Special Criminal Court in Banjul.
Testifying before the court, one Abdoulie Camara, a mechanic, told the court that he has known the accused for almost 10 years and that sometimes in August 2009 he had gone to work and met the accused at the Latrikunda German - Kotu Junction with a black Nokia mobile phone.The witness said he asked the accused if he was selling the said phone and the accused affirmed that he was selling the phone for D700, but after a bit of bargaining, agreed to sell the phone for D400.
The witness further said, the accused then took out the sim card then inside the phone and he(the witness) put his own sim card inside and started using the phone.The witness said two weeks after he had bought the phone, one Inspector Boto Keita telephoned him and asked him to go to the police headquarters in Banjul, but he refused.The witness told the court that three police officers later came to his workshop and requested that he accompanied them to the Kotu Police Station.
On their way, they demanded that the allegedly stolen mobile phone be handed to them, the witness added.The witness revealed that upon arrival at the station, he was interrogated and placed in a cell but the accused was later arrested and admitted that it was he who had sold the mobile phone to the witness. Hearing continues.
