Philippines RPCV Ann Miler teaches at Lincoln Elementary School, Wausau
I grew up in a very large family and had a lot of young nieces and nephews. I liked being around children. I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was about 10. Also my husband, Jeff, and I wanted to move to Wausau to work with Southeast Asian children because we were Peace Corps volunteers from 1988-90 in the Philippines and traveled throughout Southeast Asia.

What or who encouraged you to choose teaching as a career? I grew up in a very large family and had a lot of young nieces and nephews. I liked being around children. I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was about 10. Also my husband, Jeff, and I wanted to move to Wausau to work with Southeast Asian children because we were Peace Corps volunteers from 1988-90 in the Philippines and traveled throughout Southeast Asia.
Finish this sentence: I make learning fun in my classroom by ... doing anything that is hands-on and interactive. Anything that involves music as well -- we teach a lot through song.
What is one of your more humorous moments in the classroom? Sometimes, it's just the things the students say. Everything is so literal for them. I tell my students that Friday is catch-up day to catch up on their work. One time a student brought in a packet of ketchup and said, "Mrs. Miller, here's my ketchup for ketchup day."
What do you enjoy about teaching? I love being the caretaker to these kids. It's just so rewarding to teach them from the beginning of the year to the end of the year and see them grow.
