Barber worked as an art therapist in the country that has suffered through wars and dictatorship. "They are experiencing tremendous negative growth economically, so this of course is affecting everything," said Barber. "People are underpaid, a lot of people don't have jobs, but my experience with people one to one was exceptional beyond belief." Barber calls the Peace Corps the toughest job you'll ever love. "I wanted to do it in the 60s but I had career and family and everything else interrupt. And so when my husband retired, I thought - I've got the time to do this now," said Barber.

MOSCOW - She served almost two years with the Peace Corps and now a Moscow woman is sharing her story.

Louise Barber spoke at a recent League of Women Voters meeting in Moscow. She returned a little over a month ago from Ukraine.

"It always drew a laugh when I told them I was from Moscow, because they couldn't believe it but, like a lot of people in the eastern United States, don't know where Idaho is. But a lot of Americans don't know where Ukraine is either," said Barber.

Barber worked as an art therapist in the country that has suffered through wars and dictatorship.

"They are experiencing tremendous negative growth economically, so this of course is affecting everything," said Barber. "People are underpaid, a lot of people don't have jobs, but my experience with people one to one was exceptional beyond belief."

Barber calls the Peace Corps the toughest job you'll ever love.

"I wanted to do it in the 60s but I had career and family and everything else interrupt. And so when my husband retired, I thought - I've got the time to do this now," said Barber.

For students thinking about joining, Barber said she has no doubt it will change their lives.

"I don't think it's an easy thing to do, so you have to take it pretty seriously. But I don't think there is anybody who comes out of it looking at the world the same way afterward," said Barber.
