MSNBC says Chris Matthews "deconstructs the myth and legend surrounding" a "quintessential American family" in "Kennedy Brothers: A Hardball Documentary."
The program will debut at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, on MSNBC.
The cable news channel stressed Matthew's credentials: He wrote "Kennedy and Nixon: The Rivalry That Shaped Postwar America." He also has worked with the family or reported on it since the 1970s.
The program will draw on the insights of historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, biographer Peter Canellos, Frank Mankiewicz and family member Kathleen Kennedy Townsend. MSNBC will offer mores interviews not used in the program at its Web site.
The program's point of view? The channel says the documentary "takes viewers behind the Kennedy legacy, exposing the family's scandals, personal recklessness and dashed hopes. The program's insider access helps us come to terms with what this family has meant for American history -- and what its absence will mean for America's future."
