Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Jacksonville is losing its executive director. Joni Foster, who has been with the organization since its inception in 1999, is re-locating to Texas.
Foster is widely considered responsible for developing the Community Development Corporation (CDC) infrastructure in Jacksonville. CDC's are non-profits that exist to support lower-income communities. In Jacksonville, they are responsible for building or re-modeling more than 208 homes.
J.F. Bryan IV, chair of LISC Jacksonville's board of directors, says Foster's 11-year tenure leaves some big shoes to fill.
"She has provided stellar leadership and has a great track record of success in helping to create and organize community development corporations in Jacksonville," Bryan said.
Before coming to Jacksonville, Foster was part of LISC's rural program. She also spent time with a non-profit in Nicaragua and was a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa.
LISC Jacksonville is actively searching for her replacement.
