The US Peace Corps is waiting for applications from interested schools for its volunteer programme, the US Embassy in Romania has said.
The programme features volunteers teaching English for a two-year period of time, and their service as English teachers is based on applications Peace Corps Romania receives from schools.
Effective immediately, Peace Corps Romania is open to receiving applications from interested schools in Romania. The deadline for submissions is 1 February 2010.
Since 1992, American volunteers have been teaching English at middle and high schools throughout Romania to meet local needs. Peace Corps Romania receives applications from rural and small-town schools, where no volunteer has been assigned before, in under-served areas that lack access to English-language education and human resources.
The Peace Corps is a United States Government agency established in 1961. Per the US and Romanian Governments' Country Agreement, the agency has been running operations in Romania since 1992.
There are 65 volunteers teaching English at middle and high schools, working under the Teaching English as a Foreign Language programme. It is under the Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation's supervision, per the project plan drafted by Peace Corps Romania in accord with Peace Corps guidelines.
