After 29 years on the UAB faculty, I was recruited to Georgia Tech in 2003. I'm now a professor in the School of Biology, and my research focuses on the structure and function of proteins, nucleic acids, and lipoproteins. My wife, Marie Weaver, is an artist -- we met in Birmingham in 1983 and were married in 1987, We love Atlanta. We got lucky and found a house we could afford in Midtown, and I'm able to walk to work every day, and Marie can walk to her studio. My stepson, Ian Sampson, graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in December, 2004, with a major in illustration. He still lives in Richmond with our granddog, Jenny. 1.29.05
