After a series of meetings with President Isaias Afwerki as well as with religious leaders, intellectuals and the business community last week here in Asmara, the 5-member Peace Corps team which is currently on a peace mission to Eritrea and Ethiopia said that it is satisfied with Eritrea's genuine desire for peace. In a press conference it held with journalists on 12 June, before its departure to Addis Ababa, the team also pointed out that it has learnt in a meeting with President Isaias Afwerki last week that Eritrea had proposed acceptable principles to resolve the border conflict with Ethiopia. Furthermore, the Peace Corps team expressed its hope to obtain similar positive reaction in its discussion with Ethiopian officials in Addis Ababa.
The team which comprises 5 Peace Corps ex-volunteers who served in Eritrea and Ethiopia in the 60s is on a peace mission to the two countries. It represents 150 thousand similar volunteers who are currently engaged in different activities.
