Frank Creel is a native Oklahoman now living in Arlington, Virginia. He is married with three grown children and two grandchildren. Following graduation from St. Joseph's College (Indiana) in 1963, he served two years in the Peace Corps in Turkey. Returning from the Peace Corps, he served three years in the United States Army, including a year as a rifle platoon leader and staff officer in Vietnam. He holds a Bronze Star, a Combat Infantryman Badge and other decorations. Separating from active duty in 1968 as a first lieutenant, he returned to graduate school at the University of Chicago and earned a Ph.D. in political science. During this period he was a Fulbright-Hays research scholar.

Between 1973 and the present, Dr. Creel was an employee of the United States Department of Commerce, specializing in the regulation of international trade. From June 1993 to February 1995 he was detailed to the Office of the Secretary where he served as a senior analyst for trade and technology, as Director of the Secretariat Staff and, briefly, as acting deputy executive secretary to Ron Brown.

From 1977 to 1984, Dr. Creel wrote a weekly opinion column for The Potomac News. Beginning in 1982, he also published op-ed pieces in The Washington Times and its sister publication (now defunct), The New York City Tribune, continuing until 1986. (To see selections from Dr. Creel's columns, see excerpts). He is looking for a publisher for his book, Total Revolution--But Without the Violence: A Peace Plan for America.

Dr. Creel is among the foremost analysts and prognosticators of his generation. In 1964, almost three years before he was called to do his duty there, he foresaw that Vietnam would become a great national tragedy. He predicted in print the coming dissolution of the Soviet Union (disproving the now-settled cliche that "nobody" saw it coming). In a column written in Spring 1982, he put his finger on the greatest flaw of the Reagan Administration, its inability to restrain federal spending, including defense spending, sufficiently to protect the nation's future ability to provide an adequate defense (we now spend more on interest on the national debt than we spent on defense in 1982). Even after President Bush's approval ratings began spiraling up toward the ninetieth percentile, Dr. Creel predicted that he would be a one- term president (again in print) because the ill-advised Gulf War would, among other things, distract him from economic issues.

Dr. Creel's forthcoming book will set forth practical policy prescriptions for avoiding future national disasters and for setting America once more on a course which will make the vast majority of Americans proud and secure.
