~ The Barnes Family ~

My dad was born in Brooklyn in 1943 and my mom was born in Digos, Philippines a year later.

Thus began our life of traveling.

Jennifer and I were born in Barbados and a month after I came along, we moved back to Chevy Chase, Maryland where we still own the same house.

In 1982, we moved to Dahka, Bangladesh.

3 years later we were in Thailand where my sister and I attended, and my mom taught at the International School of Bangkok.

There I was introduced to T-ball and my sister played on her first soccer team.

These early passions would later develop into our love of sports. We lived in Thailand for four years and it is a beautiful country.

Our family took weekend trips to the beaches, provinces, and temples.

I still dream of going back there. Our next move was to the Dominican Republic.

It was hard to adjust to at first, but I loved our house and the close friends I made. In 1992, fulfilling my mother's lifelong wish, we moved to Manila, Philippines.

What was only supposed to be a four-year post, turned into a permanent home for my father who retired from his job to continue living there.

It is where Jennifer and I still call "home".

We've had some of our best times there, as well as our worst during my mother's battle with breast cancer.

We attended, and our mother taught at the International School of Manila where the Barnes' sisters were very active in school.

Jen captained her soccer and track team and I my softball and rugby team.

After Jennifer graduated in 1996, she was inducted into the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

Much to my father's pleasure,

I too won a full tuition scholarship from the Navy when I graduated in 1998.

Our family reunions now only occur twice a year when Jen and I have breaks long enough to travel back across the Pacific.
