Andi Weiss Bartczak, a science consultant and science translator from Ulster County, is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor.

Bartczak, 62, describes herself as a progressive Democrat, and says she has ''fresh ideas'' for improving the state, including:

-- Closing the budget gap in a fair manner, enabling state government, individuals, and businesses to put New Yorkers back to work.

-- Building a sustainable state economy.

-- Protecting human health by protecting the environment.

More details of her platform are available at her campaign website, www.none-of-the-above13.com.

Bartczak grew up in North Bellmore, on the South Shore of Long Island. She earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Syracuse University. From SU she went into the Peace Corps, teaching secondary school science in Guyana, South America. After almost a decade as a science technician, she earned a Ph.D. in environmental toxicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In 1996, Bartczak moved to Catskill, Greene County, and started her business as a science consultant and science translator. While living in the village of Catskill, she served as an active member of the Heart of Catskill Association, Catskill Chamber of Commerce. In 2003 she moved to Gardiner to live with her longtime companion and their three dogs, cat and turtle.

Since her return from Europe in 1972, Bartczak has been a volunteer in her community, involved in several political campaigns, women's rights organizations and environmental groups. She has been an adjunct professor at three local colleges and universities.

Bartczak is the first candidate to officially seek the Democratic nomination. State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is considered the heavy favorite to receive the nod, but he has not officially announced his candidacy.

WHO I AM

A science consultant with a B.S. in chemistry and a Ph.D. in environmental toxicology. This education and experience in laboratories give me the skills of a scientist

* a rational way of looking at problems

* curiosity about what's happening, who's doing what, what works and what doesn't

* the awareness that I don't know everything but there is probably somebody who does know what I don't

* the ability to ask questions without embarrassment

* the capacity to listen to criticism without getting angry

A woman who has been active in social change organizations for 40 years, which has educated me about

* the problems of different groups of ordinary people

* what people are doing to help themselves and others

* what people want to have so they can help themselves and others

A small business owner and sole proprietor, which gives me

* firsthand knowledge of problems faced by businesses

* exposure to the opinions and problems of many other local businesses from membership in various business groups

I am a feminist, progressive populist, believing that

* everybody counts, not just the rich and powerful

* every group needs to be included

* everybody is expected to help

* we all need help sometimes, so asking for help is not shameful

* being able to help others is a privilege

This makes me "None of the Above" – unlike the usual politician, a citizen-candidate

Support Independent Funding for the Third Goal Date: November 9 2010 No: 1460 Support Independent Funding for the Third Goal
The Peace Corps has always neglected the third goal, allocating less than 1% of their resources to "bringing the world back home." Senator Dodd addressed this issue in the "Peace Corps for the 21st Century" bill passed by the US Senate and Peace Corps Director Ron Tschetter proposed a "Peace Corps Foundation" at no cost to the US government. Both are good approaches but the recent "Comprehensive Assessment Report" didn't address the issue of independent funding for the third goal at all.
