Returned to NYC and entered magazine publishing: 14 years at Esquire,
and subsequent stints at Harper's Bazaar, Who Weekly (Australian edition
of People mag), Working Woman. Currently managing editor of Parenting
magazine (part of The Parenting Group, under Time Inc. umbrella at AOL
Time Warner).

Any thoughts you have now looking back on peace corps days?:

Invaluable experience. Life in Africa surprisingly good preparation for life
in New York City: diversity of culture, language, and personality, not to
mention plenty of just plain weird stuff. And you learn the skill of waiting in
line (and when not to).

Anyone from RCI 1975-77.

Any message for returned volunteers?:

Wecome home, there's no decent sauce arachide for miles, you'll need to
get used to aisles of pet food that would feed whole villages where you
just came from. You have much to teach, but will need to be patient with
Americans who've never lived abroad.

As professional and volunteer, I have been keenly involved in promotion of reproductive rights in U.S. and overseas, working with DC Dept of Health, Planned Parenthood and, more recently, EngenderHealth.

Any thoughts you have now looking back on peace corps days?:

I am devastated at the chaos and destruction in Côte d'Ivoire now. We were so full of hope in the '60s and '70s.
