Hello! My name is Jennifer Starnes, and I am from Wingate, NC. I am currently serving as an education and community resource PCV in South Africa. My village is called Bothithong and it is located in the Northwest Province of the Kalahari Desert.
My fellow PCV Danielle and I are co-coordinating a Camp GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) for 8 educators, 12 women, and 40 girls from our district. Camp GLOW 2004 (June 27 - July 3) will provide the opportunity for 12 women from rural villages to facilitate sessions on HIV/AIDS, self-esteem, coping with peer pressure, goal development, career choices, etc.
The reason that I am informing you all of my current project is that we are in need of financial assistance for Camp GLOW to happen. If you go to the Peace Corps website (www.peacecorps.gov), click on "Donors" (from the list on the left-hand side of the screen), and scroll down to South Africa, you will see Camp GLOW. The amount listed is incorrect because we have received several local donations. The current balance is $2,000.
Any donation that you could make would be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated. You can either pay by credit card through the website or by check (with "South Africa Camp GLOW" in the memo line) by mailing it to:
Peace Corps Partnership Program
1111 20th Street, NW
Washington DC 20526
If you have any further questions or comments for me, you can contact me at email@example.com or at P.O. Box 586, Bothithong 8582, South Africa.
