Mayor Hardberger to receive public service award in New York
San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger has been selected to receive the Dean's Medal for Public Service from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. The award honors and recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to society through their professional accomplishments and civic involvement. Columbia University is expected to present Hardberger with the award this weekend in New York. University officials cite Hardberger's role as mayor of the seventh largest U.S. city and a list of accomplishments including his pursuit of a $550 million citywide bond program to improve streets, libraries and parks. Columbia University officials are also impressed with Hardberger's professional accomplishments. San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger served as a Peace Corps Staff member in the 1960's.

San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger has been selected to receive the Dean's Medal for Public Service from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism.
The award honors and recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to society through their professional accomplishments and civic involvement.

The former West Texan was a captain in the U.S. Air Force, executive secretary of the U.S. Peace Corps during the Kennedy Administration and special assistant to the director in the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity under President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Hardberger was also chief justice of the Fourth Court of Appeals before being elected mayor of San Antonio.
Hardberger graduated from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism in 1960.
