South Carolina - Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of South Carolina

We here in the Lowcountry of Charleston are
thinking about starting up our own "auxillary"
as it's virtually impossible to go to Columbia
for the statewide socials.

If you have a list of the local vols from here
or would be kind enough to forward this to all
SC vols, maybe we could get the Charleston
members to answer and I'd collect such a list.

My e-mail address is

stephen.silver@home.com

Thanks.

Dear Returned Peace Corps Volunteers,

I am writing to you because of your unique interest in building cultural bridges and bringing nations closer together through grass roots efforts. I am a Regional Director for a not-for-profit foreign exchange program called PAX which brings between 600-800 high school students to the U.S. every year for academic exchange. Our mission is to promote international peace, friendship and understanding through the cross-cultural exchange and education of world citizens.

Right now we are preparing to place students in homestays for our 2003-2004 academic year and we are looking for new community coordinators to help us do this. We hire the field staff as independent contractors to help us find good host families and to get our students enrolled in local high schools. Coordinators are paid $500 per student placed for the full academic year and are eligible for travel benefits and the annual National Meeting.

As part of the third goal of the Peace Corps, you are already looking for ways to promote these values in your own local communities. We would love your help in finding good placements for our students.

PAX is designated by the State Department to do this important work for our students. We are CSIET (Council for Standards on International Educational Travel) approved and have been in business for close to 10 years.

Whether you've been back 1 year or 20 years, this job would give you the opportunity to reconnect with the culture you embraced as a volunteer, or it would put you in touch with new cultures. Our students come from all over the world and have all had a minimum of 3 years of English and come with their own insurance and spending money. They are excited to learn more about America and the American way of life.

If this sounds interesting to you, please let us know right away. You can reach us at 1-800-555-6211 ext 132 or by visiting our website at www.pax.org.

All the best in the work that you do day-to-day to develop a deeper understanding of other cultures besides our own.

Samantha Healy

Regional Director

PAX -- Program of Academic Exchange
