I wonder if someone could help me. I am looking for a Peace Corp teacher of mine from 1960s. He served at Ber Intermediate School, 18 miles east of Burao, between 1965 and 1966. I am sorry I know only his first name -- Gene.

He was a great teacher and I love to meet him again.

I currently live in Connecticut.
Thanks.

I am from North Somalia (now Somaliland) and went to Burao Day School in the 60's. I live in Norway now and sometime wondered about my old Peace Corp teachers. Two ladies were teaching us in Burao and they put up a small library in their house. My friends and I used to spend hours there. They were Marki Morgan (I think she was from St. Louis)who later moved to Obio in the south and Barbara (from Washington - I don't remember her last name).

Can they be traced? I would like to send them an e-mail of thanks.

I tucked myself away in Northern NH for the last 30 years. Somalia helped me deal with basic training in Army and later helped me understand the Navajo in my upperdivison outreach. Also this experience helps me deal with Law Enforcement types in my current job. (yeah black hawk down bring tears to my eyes for reasons that have little to do with the plot).

Does anyone else still swear in Somali? Which is a good thing. I did spend 2 years in Nigeria as a PCV before Somalia so I was fortunate to see different cultures.

"The Many Mushrooms"? Any of the real group reading this? If the tapes don't crack having lived at -30 in my storage building, I think I still have some reel to reel tapes.

Barbara Felicetti and I are still doing fine and living near Philadelphia. I wonder how many of our old friends from Somali 9 are on this message board.I wonder if any of our old students or our Somali language teachers are also out here. We definitely still keep up with Michelle Longino, who remains as terrific as ever. I have my PhD in Clinical Psych and run a rehab center. Barbara has her MLS in Library Science and runs her own successful business. Our son is 28 and married. Tom Felicetti

It is early 2019 and a few of us Somalia 9ers are looking to host a reunion of our group, staff and supporters on the anniversary of the 1969 moon landing this summer. Our primary task at present is to locate former members of the Somalia 9 group, in particular Bob and Steve Abbott (not related), Mark Edwards, Rich Greene, Robert Hurley, Chuck Nelson, Mike Mahlmeister, Tom Quinn, Steve Shulman, Bill Stevenson, and Linda Swanson. Any help locating the whereabout of these individuals would be appreciated. Please email denis.viri@asu.edu
