Frequently Asked Peace Corps Questions

Greetings! You are visitor 33888 since September 23, 1996.

First, a quick personal note: I am a former volunteer (Togo, 1976-1978), with no current affiliation to the Peace Corps other than my involvement with several affiliate groups. I don't even live in Washington DC.... I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. All I know is what I read in the papers.

I don't mean to discourage people from contacting me with this page. Feel free to drop me an email line if you have a question that isn't answered here to your satisfaction. Good luck!

How do I get information on joining the Peace Corps?

Do you think the Peace Corps would be interested in my background as .....

I'm a non-US citizen. Can I join the Peace Corps?

What's it like in the Peace Corps?

I've been accepted by the Peace Corps and assigned to a country or region. How can I find out others who have been there, or who are going there around when I am going?

How do I get information on joining the Peace Corps?

My best answer to this question can be found in my Tell Me How to Join the Peace Corps Page.

Do you think the Peace Corps would be interested in my background as .....

Beats me! I suggest you contact a recruiter. Once again, you'll find good information at my Tell Me How to Join the Peace Corps Page.

I'm a non-US citizen. Can I join the Peace Corps?

To the best of my knowledge, no.

What's it like in the Peace Corps?

First, I suggest you thoroughly check out my Peace Corps Crossroads site. You'll also find a wealth of information at the Peace Corps at the University of Maine page.

If you've been assigned to a country, and would like to contact others who have also been assigned to that country or who have served there, be sure to check out my Peace Corps Information Network. This is also a good page to look for someone to answer questions like “What is it like being a middle-aged female Peace Corps volunteer”, or “What is Peace Corps doing in Business Development”? If you are a soon-to-be-departing volunteer, or would like to be a mentor, be sure to fill out the form in the “What is this page?” section of the PC Info Network.

I've been accepted by the Peace Corps and assigned to a country or region. How can I find out others who have been there, or who are going there around when I am going?

Forgive me for chewing my cabbage twice, but if you've been assigned to a country, and would like to contact others who have also been assigned to that country or who have served there, be sure to check out my Peace Corps Information Network.

I'm looking for an old Peace Corps friend. How can I find him or her?

There are several resources at your disposal. First, check out the NPCA database of returned volunteers. You should also check out the NPCA's RPCV Online Directory. Also, be sure to check out my Unofficial Peace Corps Bulletin Board, which allows you to post “in search of” messages. I'll let them stay up for quite some time.

I have a friend in .... Can I get in touch with him or her via email? Once again, beats me. You might try searching the NPCA Directory at the end of this page. Or you can just send them a note by snail-mail asking them! Chances are, they probably don't.... or they would have already gotten in touch with you. But there are some volunteers in Eastern Europe who do, and perhaps elsewhere.

I have an unusual Peace Corps question. Where can I get it answered?

Check out my Unofficial Peace Corps Bulletin Board, which allows you to post “Peace Corps Questions” messages. I'll let them stay up for quite some time.

How can I let people know about the “Friends of .... ” group I am trying to form?

Check out my Unofficial Peace Corps Bulletin Board, which allows you to post “Peace Corps Announcements”. I'll let them stay up for quite some time.

Search the NPCA Database... or Add Your Name.

Click here to go to the RPCV Email Directory on the National Peace Corps Association's web site. You can search for long lost friends, and add your name as well.
