NPCA Membership dues to increase

Membership dues to increase January 1, 2003

During the Board meetings at the June Conference, the NPCA Board implemented a $10 increase in Annual Membership Dues to start in 2003. This action was taken upon the recommendation of the NPCA Finance Committee with the approval of the majority of group leaders attending the Presidents’ Forum after discussion and a roll call vote.

Beginning January 1, 2003, Annual Membership Dues for the NPCA will increase to the following rates:

* One-year individual membership (with one affiliate group): $50

* One-year couple/family membership (with one affiliate group): $65

* Three-year individual membership (with one affiliate group): $135

* Three-year couple/family membership (with one affiliate group): $180

Additional affiliate groups may still be added for an additional $15 individual or $22.50 couple/family per group per year.

The current Membership Dues rates, however, will be valid for any membership or renewal postmarked by December 31, 2002.

This fall, the NPCA will be encouraging members to take advantage of the existing three-year membership rates of $110 for an individual membership (with one affiliate group) and $155 for a couple/family membership (with one affiliate group).

Any member that has already renewed his or her membership in 2002 and would like to take advantage of those discounted rates is eligible to add an additional two years to the existing membership. Members are asked to send a check clearly marked “adding two years to 2002 membership” in the memo field with another $70 for an individual three-year membership or another $100 for a couple/family three-year membership. Please note: only those members that have renewed their memberships during 2002 are eligible for this special two-year rate.

Feedback from group representatives indicated that the overwhelming majority of affiliate groups are not seeking an increase in their rebates from us, therefore the dues increase will be allocated entirely to the NPCA to help meet the increased financial needs necessitated by a sharp rent increase and the upgrades in IT infrastructure planned for 2003 as well as the expanded programs which we are undertaking. These additional monies are also expected to significantly increase the NPCA’s abilities to support affiliate groups. It also will considerably improve staff efficiency and program development while allowing us to enhance the services we provide for members as well as affiliate groups.

Strengthening the NPCA’s ability to continue its efforts and react to new challenges is particularly critical at this time. September 11th has underlined in a very special way, the critical importance of promoting cross-cultural understanding. Moreover, both the Administration and bills now before both Houses of Congress aim at doubling the size of the Peace Corps in the 2003-2007 period. The NPCA is uniquely positioned to continue and expand upon its efforts to work for global education, domestic and international service and peace-building. We count on your sustained support in communicating this message to our membership at large.

Sincerely,

Dane F. Smith, Jr.
NPCA President
