I've discovered that visiting a retreat center occasionally is a great way to renew my energies, find focus and balance in the world.
Visiting such a place deep in the outdoors can revive many a Peace Corps Volunteer.
In the Washington, DC region, we're fortunate to have the Friends Wilderness Center near Harpers Ferry, WV. This is a little-known, unique, rather rustic, Quaker retreat site welcoming all, amidst a remarkable and private wilderness preserve. Their prepared meals in the Cabin are yummy! They can be found via www.friendswilderness.org.
There are some other Quaker retreat sites around the U.S. Some of them can be found at www.quaker.org.
There are other retreat spots in the U.S. and some of them can be found at www.findthedivine.com. or www.retreatfinder.com of various or no religious persuasion. Some places have occasional events or retreats and many let you design your experience or stay.
