I am planning on applying for the Peace Corps in January. I will graduate with a degree in elementary education in December of 05 so I hope to get accepted before then so I can leave soon after I graduate. Does anyone have any advice for when I apply? I want to do this so bad, and have wanted to for so long...I am looking for any advice that can help me. Also, what should I expect? I've read the website and sent away for information, but I would love to hear personal stories. Thanks!

As soon as possible. If you want to leave in January of 06 you really should have applied January of 05, but if you're quick you should still be able to leave around then.

Everyone has different recruiting experiences. From the date I finished the online application to getting my invitation, it was only about 3 months - and part of that was because I sat on it for a month or maybe more while I thought about it. My interview with a recruiter was in June, I finished medical and got my invite in July, and entered PC at the end of September. Applying early will give you more flexibility to choose your country or type of work you want to do - or what your recruiter is able to nominate you for. I'd say you have PLENTY of time to start January '06. You don't need to wait for info to be mailed. Do the online application, meet with a recruiter, and be on your way - good luck!
