Hello! I’d just like to take a couple of moments to introduce you to the World Scholar Athlete Games. Heralded as one of the most extraordinary youth sport and cultural events in the world today, the 2006 World Scholar Athlete Games will boast more than 2,000 talented scholar-athletes and scholar-artists from over 160 countries and all 50 States. The Games will also highlight world-renowned speakers, who will lead discussions on ethics, world issues and other important topics and the opening and closing ceremonies will feature world-famous performers.
The Peace Corps was actively involved in helping the Institute for International Sport nominate deserving Scholar-Athletes and Scholar-Artists from around the globe to participate in the 2001 Games. Mr. Ken Hill, then Acting Chief of Staff, and several regional/country directors were instrumental in getting more than 160 applicants worldwide. 25 of these applicants were awarded full program and transportation cost scholarships. Others were awarded partial scholarships. We are currently accepting nominations for the 2006 Games, to be held at the University of Rhode Island, June 24th through July 2nd and we are once again asking the help of the Peace Corps to get the word out. If any regional directors are interested in getting back on board with us for 2006, and would like to help disseminate this exciting news, please contact thaywood@internationalsport.com or call the Institute directly at 401-874-5088. It would also be appreciated if other Peace Corps volunteers would forward this information on to any school contacts they may have in their area, or simply to friends and family who just may know of a special teenager who deserves the chance to be recognized for their outstanding achievements. Nominations can be submitted online. Please visit www.internationalsport.com/SA2006 to see what a wonderful opportunity this is for talented 15 to 19 year olds.

Thank you,

Tara Haywood
