Your help is urgently needed to ensure that people in poor countries worldwide can have access to affordable medicines. Novartis, one of the largest global pharmacuetical companies, has filed lawsuits in India to try to reverse the government's denial of a patent for a costly new cancer drug called Glivec, and to try to deny India the right to to set its own patent rules under the WTO accord.

MSF ( Doctors Without Borders) has created an online petition asking Novartis to drop its case against the Indian government.

You can view & sign the petition and read more about the cases that threaten worldwide access to essential medicines, on the MSF website at: http://www.msf.org/
Novartis needs to hear from concerned people worldwide, as the next hearing date on the cases is set for January 29.

Other NGOs including Berne Declaration ( Switzerland) and Oxfam International are also involved with trying to rally popular support to protect and expand access to affordable medicines. Many more voices need to be heard. as to date there has been too little from ordinary people, espcailly Americans. This is not only about drugs for HIV/AIDS, as is popularly believed, but about access to all medicines necessary to treat diseases and conditions afflicting millions.

For more background on the cases & the need for urgent international input from a human rights perspective, see:
