I was formerly dealing with depression issues and was seeing a therapist and taking medication regularly for about a year. In the last six months I have not done either.
It has always been a life long goal to join the Peace Corps. I studied sociology in school and have spent extensive time in Latin America and West Africa (while I was being treated) and am fully fluent in French and Spanish. I currently work with an organization that resettles refugees and asylum seekers. I also graduated from a school with one of the highest Peace Corps rates for its size. I am worried my mental health history will prevent me from being accepted. I am confident I would make a good volunteer and I have been in third world environments previously while I was dealing with depression issues. In fact, I think my time abroad helped me learn to deal and cope with these issues in extremely positive ways and I fully credit those experiences for aiding me in my recovery. Despite my history, do I still have a chance?
