My name is Jami Duffy, and I am leaving for Nicaragua on May 3, 2004. I am looking for a RPCV to talk to about people/culture/diversity/etc. on Nicaragua's Atlantic Coast. I am an RPCV (The Gambia) who is about to head to Nicaragua for an internship through my Master's Program. I'm going to be in Matagalpa from June 1, 2004 until August 10th or so, working with CIAT (Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical) and local farmers. The project would involve cooperating with farmer-led participatory research groups that work to identify improved crop varieties and agricultural techniques on the hillsides. I would love to get some input and advice from RPCV's (or current PCV's) who are familiar with the region and the agriculture/forestry work being done there.

I've just been invited to serve as a volunteer in Nicaragua... I am currently out of state and don't have access to the packet sent in the mail with all the details. I have 10 days to decide and would really like to talk to someone who's spent their time there. I'm doing what I can online to research the country and am psyched... although - some of the things on-line have me questioning a few things. if you've got a minute I'd really like to chat with you...

Hi, I'm leaving for Nicaragua in January 2005 (so excited about it!) and would appreciate it so much if an RPCV could give me a glimpse of his/her experiences there as well as offer tips on what to pack (and what not to pack!). I am also interested in what kind of issues a young Asian woman might encounter. I've read a few amusing stories but would love to have a more extensive dialogue with someone. Thank you so much!
