Country of Service: Thailand

Training Group: Thai IV -- Hilo, Hawaii

Cities you served in: Tanyongmas

Arrival Year: 1963

Departure Year: 1965

Work Description:

Community Development/Rural Community Action. Working with women, children and youth in education and recreation.

Bring us up to date on your life after the peace corps:

Recruited briefly for Peace Corps before taking "emergency" teaching position in Hilo, HI. Married to Dave Marsters (Thai III) since 1965. Three children, four grandchildren. After four years in Hawaii and 25 years in Oregon teaching English and obtaining master's degree, have retired and returned back home to Seattle, WA area. Studied with Ursula LeGuin and got inspired to try my hand at fantasy writing to go along with my poetry.

Any thoughts you have now looking back on peace corps days?:

I wouldn't take a million dollars for the experience, but you couldn't pay me a million to do it again.

Anyone you are looking for or would like to hear from?:

Most members of our groups (Thai III and IV) have stayed in touch. Would like to trade war stories with Neil Weintraub whose group trained with ours in Hilo.

Any message for returned volunteers?:

Never lose the idealism. Spread it around. We need it now more than ever.
