Aloha,
I hope you can help me.

I am trying to find the name of a peace corps officer who I had occasion to work with in Tonga between 1991 and 1993.

I don't actually need to get in touch with this person (though that would be nice), but I do need to have her surname.

The volunteer in question was a Physician's Assistant who was working at the Niu'ui Hospital in Pangai, in the Ha'apai region of
the Kingdom of Tonga. Her first name is Diane. She was at the time married to another volunteer named Joe, and they were living on the campus of the Wesleyan High School in Pangai. Two other volunteers in their cohort were named Tracy and
Leo. Leo worked as a science teacher and helped establish a highly successful and popular marching brass band. Tracy worked with the Tongan Development Bank.

I need to know Diane's *last name* because she helped with the translation of a medical questionaire. I wish to give her credit in
publications about the end results of the research based on that initial translation, but I cannot do so at this point. If you can
assist me with this information, or direct me to someone who can, I would be most grateful.

Mahalo,

Dr. Heather Young Leslie
Asst. Professor,
Anthropology, University of Hawai'i at Manoa

Dear PCV,
My name is Emile Hons and I was a volunteer in the Kingdom of Tonga from 1974-1976. My message is simple...I've put together a rather substancial collection of pictures from the Kingdom circa 1972-1980ish. I've tried to pass the word ot to as many people as possible, but there are some many volunteers throughout the world that tracking everyone down is impossible at best. The site is www. friendsoftonga.com.
I hope you get a chance to review it. If you have any pictures from this time that you might like to email me for inclusion into the website or if you want to get onto my mailing list (for newsletters only) please let me know at tpsc@pacbell.net

Pear PCVs:

I was a volunteer in Tonga III from 1969-1972. Now I have a chance to return to Vava'u this June to do sailing with friends in the Vava'u group. I was hoping to try to contact some of my Tongan friends there (and also on Tongatapu) but I have lost contact with them (its over 35 years ago!). I was hoping to perhaps make contact with some present Peace Corps volunteers who may be able to tell me if individuals (whose names I'll give them) are still there. If someone has been to Vava'u recently or is currently there, please let me know.

Thanks a lot.

I was in Tonga 1971-73 and have fallen out of touch with just about everybody. I would love to reestablish contact--anyone I know out there? I am currently a psychologist at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville Counseling Center.

P.C. Tonga group 56: After making the totally erroneous decision to return stateside just prior to swearing in, I attempted to return promptly to Tonga to serve on Nomuka. I had the o.k's. of Arturo, Sally, Viliami & Drew but my request for permission to return turned into a six month e-ordeal with P.C. Washington and finally was told to send in a new application but that became a 3+ year travail and finally ended up with having to deal with two difficult individuals in the placement office who couldn't quite believe or fathom the guilt and shame I felt which led me to fight for reinstatement. Finally, I was told I would need to serve 1 year in another volunteer agency before I could be re-considered for P.C.service. Four years of trying to correct a huge mistake. It was not to be.So a word to the wise for any Peace Corps trainee who gets stressed out towards the end of training and is considering dropping out: Think twice, think twice because the Peace Corps is not forgiving in this area!
p.s. Anyone from Tonga group 56 (or anyone who has served on Nomuka): I would truely enjoy hearing from you!

Malo e lelei kau Ngaue 'Ofa,
I was in Tonga 23, teaching Chemistry and science at Tupou HS. I would like to pass on to the Tonga RPCV community an idea that came out of dinner with Tonga RPCV's Jan Worth Nelson, Lori Osmundsen and Tom Nelson. Tom pointed out that there are about 2,000 Tonga RPCV's and most of us think about going back. The occasion of the coronation of the King next year would be an excellent reason to go back. There are enough Tonga RPCV's-why don't we charter a plane to go back for the coronation? A crazy and romantic idea-and those are only two of the reasons this is a good idea. Tonga RPCV's what say you? Email me at rareed @csudh.edu

Maloelelei,

My name is Jack Clark and I served in Tonga from 11/72 to 1/75. I returned to Tonga in 1991 with Rich Dann and I am going back this month. I will arrive March 29, 2007. I have been out of touch with most of the Tonga IX group. If any of you are out there feel free to contact me. I wondered if anyone knows how I can get in touch with the Peace Corps office by e-mail.
