Bring us up to date on your life after the peace corps:
First I returned to my career as an engineer. After about two and a half years as an engineer, my PC experience affected me so profoundly, I started a new career as an educator. I taught high school math for ten years while simultaneously working with nonprofit organizations to travel overseas with students to countries in Africa and Europe, including Cameroon. I have since earned a Masters at Harvard in Education and am working for an organization named Jobs for the Future.
Any thoughts you have now looking back on peace corps days?:
Life changing. I am still in touch with many Cameroonians there. I have been to Cameroon 5 times since I left. I have brought a total of 60 people to the country.
Anyone you are looking for or would like to hear from?:
Kelly Koepel, Rachel Smith
Any message for returned volunteers?:
Honor the experience that you had. Avoid reducing to some experiment in 'finding yourself.' The volunteer experience is a critical element in a life journey.
